The X Games’ Gnarliest Gig: Playing The Human Drone As A Cameraman

Yeah, throwing corks and different spin variations off monstrous climbs is moderately hazardous. But perhaps even more dicey is currently in the process of capture footage of players hucking their meat off added climbs during the most pressure-packed instants of their lives.

Enter human drones Justin Mayers and Caleb Farro, GoPro employees and skiers assigned to the gnarly assignment of capturing mid-air footage of players in motion. Both Mayers and Farro line up at the top of a drain, be it Big Air or Slopestyle, and then follow the athletes while viewing a camera, taking off on the massive kickers, often launching some 120 -feet while trying to keep the camera perfectly still. Its a tough gig. But going the shot is worth it.

The footage is next rank, supposes Farro, who added,

But its live video so you always have butterflies. I crashed last year following Sage( Kostenburg ). I slid into the corral( at the bottom ). It was pretty embarrassing.

Both Mayers and Farro listen GoPro athlete camps following different players in the air. Mayers supposes,

In a perfect world-wide, you air off and abide made and everything is good. But youre viewing a rigging so you have to find the perfect balance.

And their team has had some bloodbath at this years X Games. Matt Cook was following Bobby Brown when he wiped out, inducing his paw to swell up and thrusting him to spend the rest of the Games in the editing bayhazards of the gig when youre disappearing immense but your attention is focused on going the shot instead of fastening a landing.

All of GoPros human drones are talented skiers in their own right and Farro was actually discovered by the GoPro peeps thanks to the vids he made with the ski team at the University of Southern California. Hucking and filming croaks hand in hand for them. This is my first week doing this, supposes Mayers. But growing up, united get five or six of us together and affect jumps and cinema so it all meets jolly natural.
