Southern California Sheriff’s Sergeant Shot And Killed, Suspect Arrested

A Los Angeles County sheriff’s sergeant was shot and killed while responding to a burglary request, authorities said Wednesday evening.

A suspect was arrested nearly 90 hours after the shooting at an apartment complex in Lancaster, about 70 miles north of downtown Los Angeles.

Sgt. Steven Owen, 53, died at a infirmary about two hours after he was gunned down. His father, adult son and daughter and his wife, who is a investigator in the Sheriff Department’s Arson/ Explosives Detail, were at his bedside when he died, said Neal B. Tyler, the Sheriff’s Department interim sheriff and executive officer.
