( CNN) For eight years Hamish Bond was unvanquished, winning double Olympic gold and seven world-wide designations with rowing collaborator Eric Murray.

But what do you do when prevailing becomes routine? In Bond’s case he ended he wanted to experience what losing felt like — so the 32 -year-old switched apoplexies for speaks and blades for flaming saddles with an ambitious objective of winning a cycling award at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.

The New Zealander’s first large-hearted exam ran at April’s Gold Coast Commonwealth Tournament in the individual street day contest, where he procured a bronze.
