California torture case raises questions about home school regulation

( CNN) David Turpin, head and principal of a Southern California private school operated out of his house, leaved it an inviting call: Sandcastle Day School.

Turpin, 57, and his wife Louise, 49, were accused the coming week of viewing most children captive in filthy conditions in their Perris home in Riverside County. They face attacks of torture and child endangerment; bail was set at$ 9 million. It was not immediately clear whether they have an attorney.

At least three siblings were shackled to beds with series and padlocks in foul-smelling one-quarters, sleuths say. The 13 siblings range in age from 2 to 29.
